Are Blogger blogs worthwhile?

I know a lot of people disprove of Blogger blogs, they aren't your own property and they have a weird looking domain name which lacks credibility. I do agree to a certain extent, the fact is when you are putting content on someone else's platform there is always the chance something can go wrong.

There was this person on Squidoo and I saw they had little blogger blogs with affiliate links on them, I was very intrigued so I emailed them to ask how being an affiliate on Blogger works and if it is worthwhile and they told me they were earning $100-200 per month on that one Halloween blog and for Halloween their earnings pretty much quadrupled (work that out :)

I set up a little blog of my own and a post I put up nine days ago has already earned a commission:

Here's the post if you want to check it out :)

costume fun

The blogger is new, I am writing maybe 200-300 words per post and Halloween shopping still isn't in full swing yet. I made sure that I wrote a similar post targeting the same costume on my own blog.

I have started a Christmas blog now, using Blogger and incorporating Pinfabulous so even if my posts do not rank in Google I have Pinterest to support me aswell.People on Pinterest go crazy for the holidays!

I've never really tried to write Christmas pages because everything seems to saturated however using Pinterest aswell people search inside of Pinterest and come upon my pins which is what I like and there is probably less competition that way.

What do you think, is it worth it?

  1. Hi Ashley,

I've been contemplating Blogger myself and not sure if it's the right direction. I currently build Amazon product review sites. The sites are product specific such as Furby Boom 2014. To do this on my own hosting such as Host Gator the cost per domain is $11'ish. So if I'm churning out 2-4 sites/week the domain costs are $50'ish.

I'm going to start building sites with Blogger and see how it works out.

Do you recommend any courses or the like that can help with Blogger set up?

    1. There are no specific guides for this strategy as no one has written a guide for it however Erica stones free guide is very similar but has you set up multiple bloggers for each keyword, I don't like that because I don't like the thought of loads of little blogs but you seem like you are using this approach so it would be better for you.

If you want to set up your own site you could just set up one big site so costs are low and target different keywords with each individual post.

  2. Congrats on your commission. I just checked out your page and I like it. I saw that there was no official costume, but maybe you could suggest (and feature) brown scrubs or a brown vest that could work with the necklace. It doesn't have to be a perfect fit for people to buy. I used this technique on one of my Halloween posts, and I sell quite a few items from it. If you want to see it, I can email you the link, just let me know. :)

  3. Hi Ashley,

I purchased a product today for an Amazon affiliate video product. I've been thinking of starting a new site, but don't want to bother with the extensive set up inside of Wordpress or purchase a domain name.

With Blogger being connected/owned by Google, blogger sites get good traffic when targeted keywords and quality content is used.

Google/Blogger also welcomes Amazon affiliates plus the blogging platform is connected to Google +.

As with any site, there's a risk, but Google doesn't seem to be going anywhere compared to sites like Squidoo. You could have a Wordpress site and the hosting company could shut down taking your website with it.

Happy to see you've already earned a commission. Good luck with making more. Think I'll give some serious thought to setting up my next niche site on Blogger.

    1. Google isn't going anywhere however blogger might be, a lot of their products get taken down so I wouldn't use them for a main website.

The traffic is a lot easier to get, seo traffic literally gets vacuumed in.

Wish you luck on whatever you peruse, be sure to update with any updates.
